Tremblay & Smith, LLP, a law firm based in Charlottesville, Virginia, has offered its clients quality legal representation and service for over 50 years. Because prospective clients are more and more likely to compare law firm websites before retaining counsel, Tremblay & Smith approached Category 4 to discuss a website redesign that would better represent their firm. Category 4 delivered a modern, professional look, as well as a custom Wordpress integration featuring cross-referenced sections of practice areas and attorneys.

Worrell Water Technologies is a Charlottesville-based company investing in the research and development of innovative, safe, sustainable technologies for water treatment and water security worldwide.

In addition to the primary website, Category 4 built two other sites for Worrell products that are all managed by a single installation of the content-management system Expression Engine, using a tool called Multi-Site manager. This means all content can be edited by multiple Worrell employees accessing the site at different levels of security, a perfect solution for companies publishing their own research info and product releases.

Category 4 used Wordpress to create a dynamic, interactive site promoting public debate with less than a month from contract signing to site launch.

Jefferson Today is a project of the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello.

The Department of Environmental Sciences is an interdisciplinary department at the University of Virginia, concerned with researching and instructing others about the interactive processes shaping our natural environment. Category 4 redesigned the department website with a clean environmental feel and intuitive access to information. A customized Wordpress integration makes it easy for the department to manage all of its content, from basic pages of text to complex listings of faculty and staff.

The Southern Environmental Law Center is the South’s most effective non-profit environmental organization. Working in all three branches of government, SELC shapes, implements, and enforces the laws and policies that determine the quality of this region’s air, water, landscapes and communities.The Southern Environmental Law Center hired Category 4 to analyze their existing site architecture and build a new site using ExpressionEngine, a robust and easy-to-use Content Management System. Google Maps integration helps SELC illustrate the regional and local nature of their work, while a custom-built CodeIgniter submission module lets visitors share their own stories about the South.

The Virginia Film Festival is hosted by the Media Studies Program at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. For twenty years the festival has presented comprehensive annual film programs, each year with a new central theme. Category 4, a longtime sponsor and web partner of the festival, previously created their online ticketing system and scheduling maintenance suite.

The 2008 Virginia Film Festival theme, Aliens!, scans both earth and sky for tales of strange visitors from other worlds and cultures. Category 4 created a sleek new website design to coordinate with the Aliens! theme and imagery. This year’s site was made to seamlessly integrate with the Wordpress framework built by Category 4 for the festival’s 2007 season.

Getting Started

• If you don’t already have a /wp-content/uploads/ folder created, make sure to create it manually and set permissions to 0777.
• To create a lead story image, visit Design->Ultimate Baseball Options and upload your picture. A script should automatically upload your image to /wp-content/uploads/ultimatebaseball/, but if your server does not allow it, the folder will have to be created and set manually.
• To change your Flickr images, visit Design->Ultimate Baseball Options and set the username or tagname and number of photos your want to display.

FAQ

• Q: How do I activate the custom ‘Archives’ template?
  A: Open your control panel and click Write->Page. Select ‘archives’ from the Page Template menu in the right sidebar, click Publish and you’re done!
• Q: How do I change the masthead photo?
  A: Open your control panel, click Design->Custom Image Header and you will see options for uploading and cropping.
• Q: If I change teams, how do I change the scoreboard info?
  A: Scoreboard info is taken and parsed from a great service called Totally Scored. Browse their site for your team, copy the RSS address into the field under Design->Ultimate Baseball Options and click Save.

• Q: What happens when the season is over?
  A: The scorebox disappears when there are no new scores to report.
